What happens during a Breathwork session?
As a guide, I work intuitively and collaboratively. Every session is a ceremony where you will be held with the utmost love, respect, and honor. As such, each session will be inherently unique to the person or group that I’m working with. However, there are a few things that will be consistent for every session I facilitate. We’ll always begin with a simple grounding meditation so that we can fully arrive in our hearts, our bodies, and the present moment together, followed by a short check-in.
During the check-in you will have the opportunity to share and have witnessed anything that you are wanting to work with in the session. This could look like a theme that arises through conversation, our shared intuition(s), journaling, creative expression (some clients enjoy drawing, poetry, singing, etc.), something you are wanting support around (a conflict or challenge), a vision or a goal you are working towards, or simply remaining open to what arises in the moment. There are no limitations here and you get to be as creative as you like!
After the check-in, we’ll transition to the active breathing meditation which lasts approximately 20-30 minutes. I’ll play some music (a curated playlist for you), you’ll lay down in a comfortable place, and I’ll be there to guide you through the journey. Throughout the session I’ll check-in with you by asking you things like, “How are you feeling in your body?” and giving you simple prompts to help keep you present and breathing through any sensations that may arise. With your consent (I will honor your boundaries if you say “No”, no explanations needed), I may also apply high grade essential oils, gentle grounding touch and burn sage or other medicinal plants/herbs to compliment the breathing meditation.
I’m an experienced yoga & meditation practitioner, so I may also bring some of these skills into the session if it feels in alignment for you and with your consent. When you are finished with the active breathing portion of the session, I’ll give you ample time to rest and integrate before we close.
To close the session, you will have another opportunity to share anything that you would like to about your experience or if you prefer, you might use the time to journal or sit in quiet meditative reflection.
Finally, I’ll guide us through another short grounding meditation to bring us back to our bodies and the present moment, coming full circle. A private session typically lasts 1 hour and group sessions are 1 ½ to 2 hours depending on the size of the group.
